If the search for -your- ancestors has led you to Mercer Co., Ohio, a membership in the Mercer Co. Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society is the next best thing to being there !!

      Membership in the Chapter supports genealogical research in the county, preservation and transcription of important local documents, contact with locals who may be able to assist you, notifcation of the availability of new publications, announcements concerning Chapter projects, and, of course, issues of the The Mercer County Monitor, the quarterly newsletter of the local Chapter.
      Limited research will be done by the Mercer County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society providing that your request has some connection to Mercer Co. Please enclose Self-Addressed and Stamped Envelope (SASE). Briefly explain the information desired and furnish known names and dates. If you wish copies of documents, the Chapter will need to be reimbursed for those costs. The Chapter hopes their "hunting" will provide pieces to your genealogical puzzle and thanks you for your cooperation and patience. 		      Membership in the Chapter is yearly beginning in January. Members joining mid-year will receive back issues of the newsletter at the time of the next scheduled newsletter mailing. Dues are payable in advance.

          When you join, please list the surnames you are researching in Mercer Co. on your application. Include your name, mailing address, your ZIP code (including the additional 4-digits if you know them from your utility bills), a phone number (with area code), and whether or not you are already a member of The Ohio Genealogical Society (OGS), the state organization, of which the Mercer County Chapter is only a chapter.

    First Families of Mercer County requirements include being a member of our chapter and able to prove your ancestor was in Mercer County as of December 31, 1860.
    Pioneer Families of Mercer County requirements include being a member of our chapter and able to prove your ancestor was in Mercer County from January 1,1861 thru December 31,1880.
    The fee is $15.00 regardless of the number of ancestors you prove. There is a fee for both First Families and Pioneer Families. Is your ancestor included? Contact Juanita Wilkins to see if you might be eligible to join and acquire application forms.
    Memorial Fund
    In November 1997, the Mercer Co. Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society established a Memorial Fund for donations given in memory of a loved one. All funds will be used to acquire various library materials for our Genealogy Room. Please specify the loved one's name, designate on your check "Memorial Fund", and mail to the chapter at the address above. This will be a lasting gift honoring those special people in our lives.
    Queries are always welcome! They will be published as space permits at no charge in the Chapter's quarterly The Mercer Co. Monitor . Each query should be submitted on a 3" x 5" card (please print legibly) and have a connection with Mercer Co. Please see The Monitor  page for more choices and information about queries.

    2006 Meetings & Chapter Events
    Functions of the Chapter are held, unless otherwise stated, the first Sunday of the month at 2:00 PM in the Richardson-Bretz Memorial Building, 115 W. Fulton St., Celina, OH (located directly behind the Mercer County Library). Meetings and Events are often held at the same time. There are no meetings in July and August.
    • May 7: Field Trip to Allen County Public Library, Fort Wayne, Indiana.  Meet for car pool at parking lot of Richardson-Bretz Memorial Building, 115 W. Fulton St., Celina, OH
    • June 4: Speaker: Karen Kruggman, CG, on "Locating Women's Maiden Names and the Sources Used,"
    •      NO MEETINGS IN JULY & AUGUST
